What exactly is PRICK!?

PRICK! is a private & confidential full STI  testing event for all 'guys who like guys.' This includes but is not limited to bisexual, cis, curious, gay, guy, male, non-binary, queer, questioning, straight, trans, two-spirit and all other 'guys who like guys'. PRICK! is a project that was created from the MHI membership, expressing the need for testing options specifically for 'guys who like guys' in a safe and supportive environment. Currently there are no other STI testing options in the interior of BC that cater specifically to the need and concerns of men who have sex with men (MSM). Other options for testing are listed under the 'Sexual Health' sections of this site.

SHARING RESOURCES, BUILDING COMMUNITY

PRICK! testing nights provide an opportunity for 'guys who like guys' to access health resources (condoms, info, resources, etc.) and view posters for upcoming MHI supported events, combating isolation and building community connection.

FAQ's & SURVEY
PRICK! ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ (FAQs) pamphlets are also distributed at the event to alleviate anxiety and provide more information on the details of the testing event. With the FAQs a survey is also distributed to gain statistics, feedback from the participants and help guide the project forward. These tools are continually evaluated and are being organized for consideration of similar PRICK! events elsewhere in the BC Interior where there is interest, support and infrastructure to do so.

EXPANSION
There is currently expansion into Penticton and Kamloops, these relationships are being fostered for sustainability and growth. Nelson and Vernon are other communities that have expressed interest in hosting PRICK! events and we hope to be able to expand to their areas.

WHAT IS 'MHI'?
The Men's Health Initiative (MHI) is a program run through the Living Positive Resource Centre. MHI is dedicated to the health care needs & concerns of 'guys-who-like-guys' in the interior of BC - including Castlegar, Cranbook, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Penticton, Revelstoke, Vernon and the rural areas around & in between.

WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU TEST FOR?
Tests included are for chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis (A,B &C), HIV and syphilis. Nurses can also provide education resources and referrals for other sexual health concerns (ie. herpes, HPV/genital warts, sores/rashes, etc.)

HOW ANONYMOUS IS PRICK?

You can use your given name, fake name or initials - the main focus is to get guys tested. This is a public clinic, there will be other people sharing the waiting room with you. We also welcome you to bring a friend for support.

WHAT INFORMATION WILL I HAVE TO PROVIDE?

Guys can share as little or as much information as they feel comfortable with - the main focus is to get guys tested. Questions about the tests available will be answered confidentially by the nurse.

VOLUNTEER
If you are interested in helping with any of our PRICK! events, please contact menshealthinbc@gmail.com to volunteer. We always need help with promoting and sponsoring of the events - as well as volunteer greeters at the actual events themselves.

SUPPORT PRICK!
Why not help us promote PRICK!? Local business that provide physical space to display posters for PRICK! receive social media attention from the MHI Facebook page. MHI also sends out once-a-month direct emails to its community and professional contacts mentioning it's community sponsors.
